This is me, on raw canvas done in charcoal and white pastel. It's the first piece I've brought home and decided to finish. =P

Well, I don't really know how you look, so it's not like I can say much on accuracy! I definitely think this is an improvement on the one I last commented on (yes, I forgot what it was, j'oublie beaucoup).

I think the initial drawing is done pretty accurately from what I know about human proportion. Where I think you could use improvement is the "blending" of the charcoal over the face to make it look smoother. I also think the clothing needs some work. I don't know exactly how to explain how it could be improved; I guess it just looks too sharp and doesn't have that nice transition of lights that folds in clothing normally do.

But yes, charcoal is a difficult medium (especially for me). I hate charcoal!
:iconsirnaelyan:
It's a fun medium though. And it goes relatively fast-- the initial "finished" version of this took 20 minutes and the teacher was still like "eh, it looks fine..." I think this is about an hour and a half.

*shrug* I know I've work to do on the clothing. I had a problem because I'm not sure if I want to make the shirt dark or light. Thanks for pointing out the blending of skin tones, because I did notice that, but maybe decided it wasn't a big enough deal to continue on that particular day, so I didn't. But now maybe I will. ^^

Oh, I think it's a great medium for life drawing, because it is relatively fast. It's horrible for stationery geometric things, though. Not as accurate as graphite.

I suggest you work more on this project; it would make it more impressive. I think this is really good for an hour and a half; and I like your contrast. That's what I always have problems on.
:iconsirnaelyan:
Contrast is difficult...and I think I finally understand why. All they teach you in school really is gradients for a very long time. Understanding how values affect each other as solids...layering and stuff..Just interesting.

Haha. They didn't even teach us gradients in my uber short summer school. It was like - here's a head! Draw it! XD

And yes. But you must learn gradients before contrast! It's the contrast that "brings things to life", you think?
